T-Shirt Quilt Class with Emily - $80/participant

T-shirt quilts are a great way to save memories once a beloved shirt has been outgrown
or gotten too worn for regular wear. They make great graduation gifts, too!

Join Emily the second Saturday in June and July and learn how to turn your old t-shirts into a memory blanket from the glory days of high-school, college, travel experiences, or concert venues.  Each block tells a story that is uniquely yours.  Think of it as scrapbooking with fabric!

Finished Size:
50.5” x 66.5” without optional outer border
55.5” x 71.5” with optional outer border

Saturday, June 13, 2026 from Noon -3:00pm
Saturday, June 13, 2026 from Noon -3:00pm
Price - $80/person
Class size 2-6 students

Students should be familiar with the operation of their sewing machine.
Some work will need to be completed outside of class time, but all steps will be covered
during class.

Materials:
12 T-shirt Designs
- If using the back and front of the same shirt, each counts as its own design
- We will be cutting a 14” square. Designs that are larger than this should be
saved for a different project. Shirts from young children that are too small to
cut a 14” square should also be saved for a different project.

Medium weight fusible interfacing such as Pellon
- Commonly sold 15” wide, in which case you will need 15 ft/5yd
- If buying a 15” x 3 yd package, you will need 2 packs
1 2/3 yd quilting cotton for sashing strips OR old jeans as discussed below:
- I used old jeans for my sample quilt. Many jeans have some stretch, so they
can be a bit more challenging to sew compared to quilting cotton.

- Each leg will need to be at least 14” from the top of the hem seam to the
bottom of the pocket.
- To determine how many strips can be cut from each leg, measure seam-to-
seam on the narrowest part of the leg. If the measurement is between 3 and
6”, you will be able to get 2 strips per leg and will need 18 legs; if the
measurement is between 6 and 9”, you will be able to get 4 strips per leg and
will need 9 legs; and if the measurement is between 9 and 12”, you will be
able to get 6 strips per leg and will need 6 legs.

¼ yard quilting cotton for cornerstones
One of the following:
- 3 ¼ yd quilting cotton for backing AND twin-sized quilt batting
- 2 ¼ yd polar fleece or minky at least 60” wide
½ yard quilting cotton for binding
Rotary cutter
Acrylic ruler for rotary cutting – 15” or longer
Thread that coordinates with your fabric
Sewing machine
Thread snippers
Cutting mats will be provided during class, but rotary cutting done outside of class will
require an appropriate size of self-healing cutting mat. A mat that is at least 22” will
make things much easier for cutting strips. Larger mats are great as they reduce the
amount of re-positioning that you need to do with your fabric!
36 or more large safety pins

Optional Materials:
2/3 yd quilting cotton for optional outer border
Walking foot for your sewing machine
Hand-sewing needle
Clips for binding
One of the following as a “view finder”:
14” or larger square quilt ruler

14” square of clear acrylic for viewing
Paper large enough to cut a 14” square out of the center (you can tape multiple
pieces of paper together)
