Folded Star HotPad with Emily $40

This intricate-looking hot pad design has a secret: all of the pieces are square! This is a great project for everyone, regardless of experience level.  The assembly is simple for beginners, but the technique is unique, so experienced quilters are also likely to learn something new.  The folding technique is the same as for making Prairie Points  used in quilts.  Join us and make this beautiful and practical hot pad!

Participants should be familiar with the operation of their sewing machine.

Most should be able to complete this project during class, with the exception of finishing the binding if opting to hand-sew the last step.

Materials:

• Folded Star Hot Pad – Square Pattern by PlumEasy Patterns
• Fabric as recommended by pattern.
  • Fabric 1 – 3 ½ x 22”
  • Fabric 2 – 5” x Width of Fabric
  • Fabric 3 – 5” x Width of Fabric
  • Fabric 4 – 1/3 yard or 1 fat quarter
  • Binding – 2 ½” x Width of Fabric
  • Backing – 9 x 9” square
• Batting – 9 x 9” square of either 100% cotton batting, or use InsulBright for better heat resistance.
• Roxanne Glue
• Iron*
• Spray Starch or Sizing
• Prairie Pointer Pressing Tool
• Rotary cutter
• Cutting Mat*
• Acrylic ruler at least 12” long
• Thread that coordinates with your fabric
• Sewing machine with walking foot.
• Thread snippers
• Seam Ripper

Cutting mats and irons will be provided during class, but if you make more after class, you’ll need these items at home.

Optional Materials:

• Hand-sewing needle
• Clips for binding
